 Our
parlor, the walls adorned with beautifully framed floral paper cuts,
immediately adjoins our six apartments. Any of our occupants is invited
to spend time here alone or to quietly entertain guests.

What our

more business travelers could stay at inns which engage their intellect and aesthetic

"Thank
you for the beauty of our bower, for murals whispering ancient

charming city." |

Many of the
authors who have read from their works in the bookstore have stayed with us. This is what
some of them have said:
 |
"This is by
far the most wonderful and enchanting place on my entire book tour which spanned sixteen
cities. I love this place. It's perfect. And you can't make me leave." |
|
|
— Elizabeth Wurtzel

 |
"Imaginative,
amusing, restful, intellectual, convenient, handsome, luxurious, provocative, private,
rare, convivial, pleasant, enjoyable, memorable, original and never to be forgotten.
Yes." |

Annie Proulx

"Chaucer
would have loved this place." |

What's been
written about us
 |
"A
suggestive morning light filtered through the skylight onto the satiny comforter covering
the ornate bed where I lay in chaste solitude. Spending the night alone in any great hotel
room inspires a yearning to share it with someone, but the Miller's Room at Canterbury Inn
in Madison, Wisconsin, makes this desire all the harder to ignore, decorated as it is with
a beautiful mural of Nicolas the Gallant preparing to make love to the young bride
Alison the bride, unfortunately, of John the Carpenter, who is about to catch them
red-handed. I ogled them enviously (for the passion, not the comeuppance) as I slipped
into a robe, put in some Mozart, and settled in with my paper, coffee, and
scone ...." |
